As much as a pain as the ID theft has been, it appears that the fraud foisted upon me was limited and confined to a defined period quite a while ago. I naturally don't want to go into much detail on the net.

I do implore you, one and all, to take steps to protect your information. Pull your credit reports, and check for anything out of the ordinary. Don't give out your SSN to anyone except your employer, the Social Security Administration, and your bank. Shred all old statements and credit card slips. Don't carry an ATM card connected to the one account where you keep most of your money. And while you're at it, check the air pressure in your car tires.
