Adventures in Spellchecking


As you may know, ergonomics is the science and practice of fitting the task to the human, and in the office environment, involves the arrangement and configuration of seating, monitors, keyboards, and other work station elements for the most healthy working position. A friend of mine who does ergonomic evaluations sent an e-mail to the individuals in his company related to the availablity of these evaluations. Unfortunately, it was misspelled as "ergomic" evaluations. Just a couple of dropped letters - not a big deal. More unfortunately, he blindly accepted the first Microsoft Word spell-checking suggestion offered, and sent the e-mail throughout his company without carefully re-reading his message. Plug it in yourself, and you'll see why people were surprised at what sorts of evaluations are available these days.
